Meet Mrs. Dombrowski

Hello, fourth graders. My name is Mrs. Dombrowski. I am filling in for Mrs. Vanderbur while she is on maternity leave. I am so exited to be your teacher starting this September. I anticipate a great year ahead for you.  I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I graduated from Western Michigan University many years ago with a Bachelor of Science degree. I also have a Masters of Arts in elementary education. After graduating from Western I became a third grade teacher for Hudsonville Public Schools. I started working here at Bauer in 1990. When I began teaching, Bauer was a very small country school. There was one classroom per grade level.  My classroom was where the music room is now. After a year in third grade, I moved to fourth grade and then fifth. I settled back into fourth grade after that and taught it for the rest of my career. (My room was Mrs. Kopka's room.)  In 2001, I resigned from teaching to spend more time with my family. I spent eleven wonderful years at Bauer and I am looking forward to coming back this fall.

Science is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I also love reading and writing, something I do as a hobby. In my free time I work in my vegetable garden or take quiet walks in the park with my dog, Gracie. Gracie is a shitzu Maltese mix and she is absolutely adorable. I also have two rescue cats, Sam and Helga. If the name Helga makes you think of someone very large, you would be correct. Helga is our very fat kitty. She is so fat she has a difficult time jumping up on furniture. We currently have her on a diet in hopes that she will be able to do the things that cats do best. Sam is our tiny cat that rules all the animals in our home. She is the alpha female and even Gracie takes orders from her.

I live in Jenison with my husband of 24 years and our two sons, Alex (20) and Andrew (16). I home schooled our boys for six years. Now, Alex is working and Andrew goes to high school at the West Michigan Aviation Academy where he will learn how to fly planes by the time he graduates. Next year he will begin his training as a pilot by going to ground school. This is a requirement before he begins the actual flying courses.

I hope you all have a great summer. I look forward to meeting everyone one of you in the fall. I am so excited to be back at Bauer where I feel so at home.
