Math:
We have been busy learning our multiplication and division factors and working on word problems. We have learned our 5s, 2s, 9s, 10s, 3s, and 4s. The students are loving to learn multiplication. This unit does move quickly for students. Please go through homework problems with your child to be sure they are understanding the concepts taught this unit.
*Remember to continue to have your child practice their Xtramath at home each night. The students who consistently are practicing are showing so much growth already in their skills.
*Homework is given out every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It is always do the following day. $20 bonuses for students that have homework in on time!
Reading:
In reading we are busy building our lives as readers. The students are able to start taking quizzes for Scholastic Reading Counts. This year their goal is the number of "just right books" they've read. They need to take a quiz and pass in order for the book to count. We have been working on thinking while reading. The students are using sticky notes to stop and think and write down, " I notice, I wonder, I think.." questions and comments as they're reading.
Remember reading 20-30 minutes a night is strongly encouraged for 3rd graders.
Writing:
We have been writing our personal narratives. The students chose a small moment story in their life, and are working to develop a good story around that moment. They are encouraged to tell their story with a lot of detail to make it interesting for their readers. :) We have also been working hard in grammar every day. The last two weeks we have learned about adjectives, possessive nouns, and what a subject and predicate are of a sentence. :)
*Every Friday your child will be taking a short little quiz over grammar.
*This is graded together and used as a tool to learn from.
Spelling:
Remember every Monday spelling lists go home and are posted on the blog.
*There is a test every Friday.
Social Studies:
We are studying the geography of Michigan! The students are having so much fun learning about the state that we live in. We've been studying landforms and bodies of water in Michigan.
*They have a short quiz on Monday over the Great Lakes, Peninsulas, and one other landform or body of water of their choice. :)
Learning Target Sheets:
Please remember to check your child's learning target sheet each night and sign at the bottom when they read for the night. On the back there is a spot to mark their minutes and XtraMath. Having home and school communication is vital to your child's success.
*They receive a $5.00 bonus every day it is signed.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments!!
