Math
We just finished Unit 1 in math! Keep an eye for the test coming home this week in your child's take home folder. There will be a Learning Target sheet stapled to the test. This sheet tells the learning targets that were covered on the Unit 1 Test and how your child performed on each target. We will begin Unit 2 on Tuesday. Please remember to continue to have your child practice their Math facts every night. This is so important for their future.
Reading
We began reading
Because of Winn Dixie. We will be reading this book throughout our entire character unit in Reading. We have begun to analyze characters in our books. At home, you can help your child by listening to them read and discussing the characters in their books. (What can we infer about the characters based on what we read? What are some of the characters internal feelings? How do you know? What kind of person is your character? )
Writing
We finished one of our personal narratives and are beginning to draft our second this week. Last week, we worked on creating story mountains for our narratives. With each idea in our story mountain, we added a feeling that went with that idea. This unit is all about having the students really use a lot of details to "show" and not "tell"what is happening in their stories. (
Tell: I was excited.
Show: I couldn't wait to open the gift to see what my mom got me for my birthday! I was jumping up and down and kept asking my mom if it was time for gifts yet).
Grammar: In grammar, we have been discussing proper nouns, subject and predicates, adjectives and working to be sure that these parts of speech are all visible in our writing.
Spelling: Remember to continue to have your child study for spelling tests. There is a test every Friday!! Unless noted differently on their Learning Target Sheets.
Social Studies:
We have been learning all about the geography of the state we live in. We have discussed human characteristics, natural characteristics, and state symbols. Be on the lookout on your child's learning target sheets for when the social studies test is! We are nearing the end of the unit.
Donations:
We will be doing our first auction day for Classroom Economy this Friday. If you have anything that you would like to contribute to our auction day, it is much appreciated. ( markers, crayons, toys, small items). Auction Day: Students bid on different items in the classroom with the money that they have earned through our classroom economy system.
