Reading:
We began our non-fiction unit in reading. The students are reading non-fiction books from the library as well as reading about Michigan History during Social Studies. We will be focusing on finding main ideas and details in our non-fiction books. The students will be checking out non-fiction books from the library and fiction books. Please check to see at home if you have any Bauer library books lying around, we were missing quite a few last Wednesday.
Writing:
We finished our Opinion Unit before Winter Break and have jumped right into our next writing unit: Information Essays. Last week we generated ideas about topics that we are experts on and know a lot about. In the next couple weeks we will be focusing on categorizing our ideas, writing topic sentences and paragraphs to support our idea.
Math:
We are continuing with Unit 3 in Math: Measurement, Time, and Graphs. The students have been doing a great job finding elapsed time and adding and subtracting intervals of time. It is a very tricky concept for 3rd graders. Any chance that you can get at home to practicing elapsed time would be great! We will be finishing Unit 3 in the next 2 weeks.
Social Studies:
We began our Michigan History Unit on Monday. We started off by learning about the Hopewell Indians and will continue next week by learning about the 3 Fires.
