Important Arrival and Dismissal Changes!

One of the biggest changes for the upcoming school year will be our Safe and Secure Entrance procedures.  Any visitor coming after 9:00 a.m. will need to be “buzzed” into the office by Mrs. Opple.  If she is not immediately at her desk, the visitor will need to wait a moment until she returns.

The end of the day will also look very different.  Students riding the bus will exit our front door. All students being picked up will exit the South door and wait with a classroom teacher until the adult picking the student up comes to walk them to their vehicle.  Parents will not enter the building at the end of the day to wait for students.  We are instituting this procedure to ensure the safety of our students in the parking lot.  There will be several classroom teachers present with students as they wait.  If you, or a care giver, pick up a student, please use extreme caution as you drive in the parking lot.

Attention All Volunteers!

If you are wanting to volunteer during the school year for any reason, please fill out the form below!
Even if you filled it out last year, we will need you to fill it out for the new 2016-2017 school year.

Meet Mrs. Dombrowski

Hello, fourth graders. My name is Mrs. Dombrowski. I am filling in for Mrs. Vanderbur while she is on maternity leave. I am so exited to be your teacher starting this September. I anticipate a great year ahead for you.  I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I graduated from Western Michigan University many years ago with a Bachelor of Science degree. I also have a Masters of Arts in elementary education. After graduating from Western I became a third grade teacher for Hudsonville Public Schools. I started working here at Bauer in 1990. When I began teaching, Bauer was a very small country school. There was one classroom per grade level.  My classroom was where the music room is now. After a year in third grade, I moved to fourth grade and then fifth. I settled back into fourth grade after that and taught it for the rest of my career. (My room was Mrs. Kopka's room.)  In 2001, I resigned from teaching to spend more time with my family. I spent eleven wonderful years at Bauer and I am looking forward to coming back this fall.

Science is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I also love reading and writing, something I do as a hobby. In my free time I work in my vegetable garden or take quiet walks in the park with my dog, Gracie. Gracie is a shitzu Maltese mix and she is absolutely adorable. I also have two rescue cats, Sam and Helga. If the name Helga makes you think of someone very large, you would be correct. Helga is our very fat kitty. She is so fat she has a difficult time jumping up on furniture. We currently have her on a diet in hopes that she will be able to do the things that cats do best. Sam is our tiny cat that rules all the animals in our home. She is the alpha female and even Gracie takes orders from her.

I live in Jenison with my husband of 24 years and our two sons, Alex (20) and Andrew (16). I home schooled our boys for six years. Now, Alex is working and Andrew goes to high school at the West Michigan Aviation Academy where he will learn how to fly planes by the time he graduates. Next year he will begin his training as a pilot by going to ground school. This is a requirement before he begins the actual flying courses.

I hope you all have a great summer. I look forward to meeting everyone one of you in the fall. I am so excited to be back at Bauer where I feel so at home.

Looking Ahead...

I hope you all had an amazing Spring Break! Whether you were somewhere warm or in Michigan, I hope you found some time to relax.

Here are some important dates coming up to mark on your calendars for the next couple of weeks!

Thursday, April 14: Science Test over Animals

Monday, April 18 : Math Test over Fractions

Wednesday, April 27: M-STEP Begins for 3rd Graders!

In math, we've been working on identifying fractions as a part of a whole, comparing fractions, and finding equivalent fractions. Your child can continue to practice fractions on Study Island!

In writing, we've been researching an animal of our choice. This week we will be using all of our information that we've found through our research to compose a paper!

In Reading, the students are continuing to work hard on meeting their SRC goals that they have set for themselves. We've been integrating science and reading a lot the past couple of weeks. It's been a lot of fun having the students read to learn about their animals and all the different adaptations their animal uses to survive.

In science, we have been learning about invertebrates and vertebrates. The students will be responsible for knowing the 4 B's for different animals for the test. (Breathing, Body Covering, Babies, Blooded). There will be a review coming home Wednesday with flash cards and a 4 B's practice sheet.

Thank you again to all our Mystery Readers that joined us during Reading Month! It was so special for the students to listen to all of the different books and see some family members surprise them. : )

Bandaid Competition!

Bandaid Competition:
Next week, February 29-March 4, Bauer will be collecting bandaids for the Helen Devos Children's Hospital. In celebration of Cambri Jewell's (Caden Jewell's sister) last chemo appointment, Jewell's are asking people to join them in giving back to the hospital by donating FUN bandaids that the patients can choose from after their chemo ports are removed. In efforts to collect as many boxes as we can, we are making this a competition. The class that brings in the most boxes of bandaids will win Sprinkles Donuts. If you would rather donate money, that is great too. We will go out and purchase bandaids with any money raised.
IMPORTANT:  All band aids must be medication and latex free.  CURAD® and Nexcare™ are some of the best brands for latex free options. Thank you so much for considering this!
